A colleague recently forwarded to me the following question that he received from someone in Israel:
ראובן השאיל דירה שלו לשמעון, שאין עליו דין שומר על היזק קרקע (חו”מ ש”א סעיף א’), האם יש לו דין שומר על המטלטלין, הגם שאינו משתמש איתם. ואם דינו כשומר איזה דין שומר. והיאך יש לו קנין לחייב.
He asked me to write a response; I have written a rather lengthy and comprehensive one.
